Coming in 2017, Bones returns to the world of Yasuhiro Nightow's supernatural action manga in Blood Blockade Battlefront & BEYOND.

Shigehito Takayanagi (Dagashi Kashi, Galaxy Angel, World God Only Knows) takes over from Rie Matsumoto on the Bones 2017 production.

Dagashi Kashi's Yasuko Kamo will be writing rather than Kazunao Furuya, but Toshihiro Kawamoto returns as character designer/animation director, along with Taisei Iwasaki on music. Cast will similarly be returning.

Following its presentation at last weekend's Jump Festa event, accompanied by a cast appearance, the latest bit of hype comes courtesy of a teaser video.

Funimation distributes the 2015 Blood Blockade Battlefront (directed by Rie Matsumoto) in North America, and describes the story of the series as follows:

"A breach between Earth and the netherworlds has opened up over the city of New York, trapping New Yorkers and creatures from other dimensions in an impenetrable bubble. They’ve lived together for years, in a world of crazy crime sci-fi sensibilities. Now someone is threatening to sever the bubble, and a group of stylish superhumans is working to keep it from happening."

Dark Horse publishes the manga in North America.
